7DESIGNING PERFORMANCE-BASED RISK MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Research engineers at MIT have created a prototype machine that eliminates the need for human intuition in big data analysis. At some point in the future, this “Data Science Machine” will obviate the need to create risk management plans and then execute those plans. The machine will perform the risk analysis and then measure its own success. Until that happens, humans will still need to develop risk strategies, determine risk and each risk’s mitigation, and then measure the process and its success.

Risk Strategy

A proactive risk strategy should always be adopted, as shown in Figure 7.1. It is better to plan for possible risk then have to react to it in a crisis.
