One OOP-related topic included in this chapter is that of namespaces: an essential core feature of PHP for large projects. Namespaces allow you to better structure and distribute code.
Let's look back at the eventful history of PHP. On October 25, 2008, after months of sometimes heated discussions, a major syntax decision was made for PHP 5.3—via the IRC chat medium[ 89 ]—which was released over six months later. It was about namespaces and the separator required for the same. The choice was made to use the backslash (see Figure 11.53).
