It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
33.4 Standards-Based Authentication
Standards-based authentication has been triumphant on the web for several years now. The reason for this is the rapidly changing web architecture. Whereas a company used to have a single website as the central web application to which customers could log in, many companies now offer their customers a customer portal, an online store, an e-learning system, and much more in addition to the obligatory website. And all these applications require a user login. So what could be more obvious than outsourcing user authentication to a separate service, often called an identity provider?
