Summary
In the beginning of this chapter, you looked at the original backup medium: tape. Tape provides a very
mature, well-known, and superficially inexpensive method of storing backups. However, weaknesses,
such as the sequential nature of tape, the mechanical complexities, and the highly variable nature of the
throughput to tape devices are rapidly relegating tape to secondary or tertiary storage medium in many
environments.
