Deduplication Ratios
The previous measurements of client, network, and SAN data were centered on primarily performance
data; the measurement of the deduplication ratio is a capacity-centric measurement. In the previous
discussions about deduplication, the type of data stored had a very large determinate factoring on the
efficiency of the deduplication process and subsequently the amount of data actually stored. The
measurement of the data actually stored to the data transferred is the deduplication ratio. In order to
capacity plan for a deduplication environment, it is important to understand both the day-to-day
deduplication ratios as well as long-term deduplication.
