For a good many years, the Republican Party has been
positioned by the Democrats as the minority party of the rich
and the status quo. In fact, the presidential race of 1992
helped to solidify that perception. Patrician George Bush, and
his tired brand of GOPers, were outflanked by an aggressive
young southern Governor who broke onto the scene as a
champion of change and the middle class.
Bill Clinton’s problem? He has forgotten who and what
made him President. People actually took seriously his
promise of change. And when voters began to perceive that he
wasn’t fixing things, but waffling and being consumed by
forces within his hopelessly fragmented party ...
