Chapter Aims
This chapter gives an overview of the origin and state of public relations in the public sector. The characteristics of national and local government and health sector PR are examined and the future challenges of the sector are discussed.
Before considering the nature of public sector PR, it is worth identifying the organisational make-up of the sector. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) defines the public sector as comprising central government, local government and public corporations.
