Our main goal for this book is simple: to help readers learn how to create and refine interaction designs that ensure a quality user experience (UX). A good user interface is like an electric light: when it works, nobody notices it. (We used to be able to use the telephone as a similar example, but now multifunction cell phones with all kinds of modalities have thrown that example under the bus.) A good user interface seems obvious, but what is not obvious is how to design it so that it facilitates a good user experience. Thus, this book addresses both what constitutes a positive user experience and the process by which it can be ensured.
