Physical locomotion
Physical locomotion systems refer to unique movement control schemes that tend to be designed for the specific game experiences they're applied to. Because of this, they tend to be some of the most innovative ideas that we see in the VR space today.
This type of locomotion covers purpose built movement methods such as the kayak paddle system built by my students, as well as hand-over-hand climbing, running in place while swinging the controllers, swimming motions, and flying by moving the player's arms.
