Sketching a Network Layout
In our opinion, the best way to start planning your wireless network is to create a drawing or sketch of the area (floor plan) in which it will be used. You don’t need architectural drawings, just a simple floor plan (all floors and a rough idea of the room sizes). If you plan to (or want to) use your computer outside (for example, near a pool or on a patio in the backyard), you should include that area in the drawing as well.
Once you have the sketch completed, you need to figure out where you want (or need) to place the wireless router and where your computers and other devices that will be wireless are going to be used.
