How Wireless Coverage Works
Wireless networks are similar to cell phone networks:
• The more bars of service you have, the better the call sounds.
• When you have very few bars of service, you may be able to place a call, but it probably does not sound very good.
• When you have zero bars of service, you cannot make or receive calls.
Wireless networks operate the same way, as shown in Figure 11-1. When you are within the coverage area of your wireless network and have good signal strength (shown in the green area), you will have a good wireless connection and also have at or near the maximum data rate your wireless router supports (54 Mbps for 802.11g, 108 Mbps or higher for 802.11n, and so on).
