The role of the Scrum Master is to implement the Scrum method and insure that its introduction is effective and it continues properly. The Scrum Master is both a coach and a coordinator.
The Scrum Master can be compared to a sports coach. Most athletes need a coach to observe their techniques and to offer interpretation and suggestions for improvement, but the true value of a coach is psychological. The coach must be responsible for the mental well being of the athlete. It is up to him to make the athlete feel assured and confident of a good performance.
