Bulkhead pattern

The problem description—cloud applications typically comprise multiple and inter-linked services. A service can run on different and distributed services as service instances. There can be multiple requests from multiple consumers for each of those service instances. When the consumer sends a request to a service that is misconfigured or not responding, the resources used by the client's request may not be freed in a timely manner.

As requests to the service continue incessantly, those resources may soon be exhausted. The resources occupied include the database connection. The ultimate result is that any request to other services of the cloud application gets impacted. Eventually, the cloud application may not be available ...
