This chapter contains an overall analysis of the nature of learning as an introduction to the more detailed descriptions of learning processes that follow. It starts with a preliminary look at the basis of learning, including the 70:20:10 model, and continues with an examination of what encourages people learn in terms of how they are motivated and engaged. The rest of the chapter is devoted to a summary of the learning theories that explain how people learn and the lessons that can be learnt from neuroscience.
