Learning events are there to develop transferable skills. An event will only be successful if those skills are put to good use in the place of work. Account needs to be taken of the problem of transferring learning from a formal training course. Research on the transfer of training has treated transfer as the primary outcome of training, or as Salas et al (2012) observed, its ‘endgame’.
Training can seem to be remote from reality and the skills and knowledge acquired can appear to be irrelevant.
