tion) are only rarely reported. However, cold plasma technology can greatly
enhance cell–material interactions. Also, a better comprehension of these
interactions is of crucial importance to provide important details on which
plasma approach is most suitable.
Up till today, the major part of research has been done on surface engi-
neering of 2D substrates, despite the speci c needs of tissue engineering for
3D porous scaffolds. Only few studies have been reported to test the use of
cold plasma technology for surface modi cation of the interior of 3D porous
