FURTHER READING

Communicating Design: Developing Web Site Documentation for Design and Planning, by Dan M. Brown (New Riders, 2006).

This is a practical book with a clear focus: creating design documentation. Brown covers ten design deliverables in detail, including site maps, flowcharts, wireframes, and screen designs. This is a very hands-on book that goes into great detail of creating design deliverables with many good examples. It's highly recommended.

Homepage Usability: 50 Websites Deconstructed, by Jakob Nielsen and Marie Tahir (New Riders, 2000).

Based on analysis of home pages from 50 different sites, this book presents guidelines for creating home pages. The authors first present the guidelines, and then a detailed analysis of each home page analyzed. In doing so, they illustrate many principles of page layout, particularly balancing content, navigation, and other elements.

Information Architecture for Designers: Structuring Websites for Business Success, by Peter Van Dijck (RotoVision, 2003).

This is a very visual book with many images and diagrams. It covers a gamut of topics surrounding information architecture in general. There is a brief, but very good section on wireframes. Many case studies throughout this book bring the theoretical and procedural explanations to life.
