Sequential memories perform to access the memory address in sequence starting from rst

address. The access time is different for different memory locations to access addresses

sequentially. Counter or shift register is used to maintain the sequence to access next

memory address. Shift register and charge-coupled devices (CCD) are sequential memories.

Magnetic tapes being secondary memories are sequential memories. For example, to access

the 3rd memory address, more time is required than to access the 2nd memory address.
