Naturally, the capacitors on the sample-and-hold ampliers are not capable of holding
a voltage indenitely. Therefore, the sampling rate must be sufcient to avoid the decay
of voltages appreciably between samples. The sampling rate is a function of the capacitors
and the frequency of the analog signal which is expected at the output of the converter.
For the sinusoidal signal, it is necessary to sample at only twice the signal frequency. For
instance, if the signal is a 2.5-kHz sine wave, it must be sampled at a rate greater than or
equal to 5 kHz.
