More often than not the shape of the boiler room will be dictated by
the structural and planning requirements of the architect.
On the other hand the engineer's concern is to arrange his plant
so that it can be easily and efficiently operated and maintained. In
order to secure these conditions adequate floor area and height are
necessary, and the engineer must be prepared at a very early stage
in the design to inform the architect of the minimum dimensions of
