Steps 0 and 1 – problem statement and dataset

The dataset can be downloaded from https://ti.arc.nasa.gov/tech/dash/groups/pcoe/prognostic-data-repository/. For our simplified exercise, we will just use the train_FD001.txt file . The challenge proposed by the NASA is to calculate the RUL of the 100 engines that are listed. The data is provided in a compressed format where the 26 columns are as follows:

• • Unit number (the engine ID)
  • Time, in cycles
  • Operational setting 1
  • Operational setting 2
  • Operational setting 3
  • Sensor measurement 1
  • Sensor measurement 2
  • ….
  • Sensor measurement 21

In the dataset, the time series ends some time before the system failure.
