Summary
ATM provides rich QoS functionality that offers a variety of services. PPD and EPD cell
discard techniques improve the effective throughput relative to a random cell discard in an
ATM network carrying IP traffic. When a cell needs to be dropped in an ATM network, PPD
can send a partial packet (not all packet cells can be dropped), whereas EPD drops all the
packet cells.
For running IP QoS end to end across an ATM network, packet drops and scheduling at the
