Another set of widely used nonlinear ﬁlters are the minimum and maximum ﬁlters.

Like the median ﬁlter, these two are also order-statistic ﬁlters. The maximum ﬁlter

ﬁlls the central voxel of the 3-D window with the maximum X

among the ordered

set of voxel intensities, whereas the minimum ﬁlter replaces it with the minimum

value, X

. Unlike the median ﬁlter, these ﬁlters have much reduced computational

complexity. The implementation of these ﬁlters is also speeded up by performing
