Replication Topology
Publishers, distributors, and subscribers each play a role in the distribution of data. The method of connecting all these pieces together and their relationship to one another establishes your topology. In a simple topology, the publisher and distributor are located on a single server and there can be one or more subscribers. Specific requirements for distributing data might call for a more complicated topology. If there are hundreds of subscribers to a publication, a single publisher or distributor might not have the resources necessary to manage the heavy processor load and disk I/O.
