ClearType is a font technology originally designed for Microsoft Reader, a program for reading electronic books. ClearType characters have particularly smooth edges and higher horizontal resolution (three times that of predecessors), so they are crisper and easier to read on LCD screens. Figure C.1 shows a Web page in Internet Explorer displayed normally. Figure C.2 shows the same Web page displayed using ClearType.
