So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
What Happens When You Install an Application on Windows XP
When you install an application on Windows XP, it is usually accomplished by using the Windows Installer utility, which not only installs the program but also keeps track of the files copied to your system and the entries made to the Registry. This makes uninstalling an application a much easier task.
Other installation programs also exist, especially in older programs, but most installation programs will perform the following tasks:
- Create an installation directory (usually under the Program Files directory unless you choose a different location).
- Copy files to the installation directory.
- Copy files to other directories, such as \Documents and Settings or \Windows.
