You can open the Control Panel window directly from the Start menu. If you have used previous versions of Windows, you will notice a change the first time you open the Control Panel. By default, a category view (see Figure 14.1) is used that is supposed to make it easier for new Windows users to get around. This view presents a number of broad categories that, when clicked, open other windows with tasks pertinent to that category. For example, clicking the category named Appearance and Themes leads to tasks such as changing the desktop background and screensaver. At the bottom of each category window, you will also find links to the actual Control Panel applets that fit within the category.
