What's New in IIS 5.1?
IIS 5.1 is the latest incarnation of Internet Information Server. IIS 5.1 ships with Windows XP. It is only a small upgrade over the IIS 5.0 version that came with Windows 2000, but it does offer a few new features.
New features in IIS 5.1 include the following:
Advanced Digest Authentication—Digest authentication was introduced in IIS 5.0 and is a secure way to authenticate users across proxy servers and firewalls. IIS 5.1 provides a more secure and reliable version of digest authentication.
Metabase Changes—The Metabase is a registry-like database of configuration settings for IIS. IIS 5.1 provides several enhancements to Metabase management. You can now restore the Metabase from backup to other computers on the network. ...
