Chapter 2. Set Up Your NOOK Tablet

Now that you know how to use your NOOK Tablet, it’s time to charge it up, get online, connect with Barnes & Noble, and get on to the good stuff.

Charge Your NOOK Tablet

Your NOOK should arrive with enough juice to start poking around immediately, but you’ll probably want to give it a full charge before you get caught up in a good book, game, or any other of the many distractions you’re bound to find along the way. Charging is pretty straightforward: just insert the USB side of the included cable to the base of your NOOK, connect the other side to the power adapter, and plug it into a wall socket.

Plug the larger end of the USB cable into the power adapter, and then plug the power adapter into a wall outlet. Then connect the miniUSB connector on the cable to the small USB port at the bottom of your NOOK tablet. Your NOOK will start charging immediately. The little NOOK icon on the USB cable near the mini connector will turn orange, showing that your NOOK is charging. When it’s fully charged, it turns green. It takes about three hours to reach a full charge, which should last up to 11.5 hours of reading or 9 hours of watching video.

Note

Third-party USB charging cables and devices, including car chargers and power converters, should also work.

By the way, you don’t need to wait for your NOOK Tablet to charge while you’re going through setup. You can set it up while it’s charging. So plug it in, keep this book open, and start reading while you get it set ...
