Chapter 15

Interfacing D/A Converters to Loads

Abstract

Another common op amp application is to interface the output of a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to an analog output. Load characteristics need to be taken into account, as does the architecture and characteristics of the DAC. There are many sources of error inherent to DACs, and these need to be understood and taken into account. There are DC- and AC-coupled applications, and different ways of looking at DAC errors for both. DC applications oftentimes involved power, and the output of the op amp may have to be boosted in a buffer stage.
