It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Extreme Applications
Abstract
Newer generations of op amps are more rugged and can be used in applications that see harsh conditions. Chief of these extreme conditions is temperature. Op amps can be used for military, downhole drilling, spacecraft, and even geothermal applications if the effects of temperature on key parameters such as life, speed, noise, output drive are taken into account. Packaging and PC board design are also critical.
