It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The print server built into every copy of OS X is quite capable. These are its main features:
Printers accessible by users on the same local network as the server
Print queues stored on the server
Sharing of network printers, not just printers connected to the server
Support of Windows and Linux clients
Automatic connections to the network directory
Printer load balancing with pooling
Remote administration from any computer and any OS with a web browser
Kerberos authentication for printing
