Understanding the Default Style in SAS 9.1.3
The basic inheritance model for style templates changed between SAS 9.1.3 and SAS 9.2. This change allowed the developers to simplify how style templates could be changed. Even if you have SAS 9.2, this section might help you understand the background of style templates.
SAS has a single default style template, Styles.Default, that it uses differently depending on whether you send output to the HTML, RTF, or PDF destinations. This style template produces the familiar gray and blue ODS HTML output. SAS also uses it as the basis for RTF and Printer-family styles, and the style has specific modifications for these destinations.
