Several popular power electronic circuits that are used in various typical applications are presented and analyzed in this chapter. These circuits, which consist of switches, diodes, and various passive elements, are supplied by an ac or dc voltage source. This chapter shows how to analyze a power electronics circuit, taking into account its transient state current components. The I–V characteristics and the operation modes of the power diode are then presented and analyzed and the half-wave uncontrolled rectifier topology is analyzed for different types of loads as an example.
