6.6. Current Source Inverters

Fig. 6.97 presents the power circuit of a three-phase CSI where the input supply is not a voltage source, as was the case in the previous inverter topologies, but a current source. The function of the CSI stage is to convert the dc current fed from the current source reactor (CSR) into single- or three-phase ac balanced currents. The main function of the CSR is to convert the characteristic of the dc voltage supply into a current source type. Furthermore, the CSR limits the ripple factor of the dc input current, ii, to a prescribed level. Since all sources available are voltage sources, a current source can be generated by transforming the voltage source through a converter topology and an inductor to a current source. ...
