6.8. Other Pulse Width Modulation Techniques

As mentioned previously in this chapter, besides the PWM of a square-wave, quasi square-wave and the SPWM control techniques, there are also the following modulation techniques:
• Trapezoidal PWM (TPWM)
• Harmonic injection PWM (HIPWM)
• Hysteresis band current controlled PWM (HBCCPWM)
• SVPWM

6.8.1. Trapezoidal Pulse Width Modulation

This technique, which is shown in Fig. 6.113, uses a triangular carrier signal but the reference signal is a trapezoidal signal. This technique is similar to the SPWM with the only difference being the trapezoidal reference signal. In case of a three-phase inverter, there are three trapezoidal signals with a phase displacement of 120° among them.
