The buck or step-down converter, shown in Fig. 7.1(a), converts its dc input voltage to another dc voltage which is lower than the dc input voltage value. The waveforms of the buck converter for discontinuous and continuous output inductor current are shown in Figs. 7.2 and 7.3, respectively. The buck converter can operate in any of the three following modes:
