While BGP is most often run on routers, which are also responsible for forwarding traffic, in some cases other devices may run BGP as well, whether to simply gather information about the routing tables being carried in BGP or to carry routing information between routers. Since this is the case, we will sometimes refer to devices that are running BGP rather than routers specifically.
