Flexible BGP Communities, draft-lange-flexible-bgp-communities, describes a new type of community for BGP. Flexible communities build on extended communities, providing more options for marking BGP routes with policy information, and providing space for encoding IPv6 addresses within the community space.
Flexible communities introduce the concept of a neighbor class, which allows a network administrator to build policy based on the type of peering connection shared with an outside autonomous system. This is useful for both enterprise and service provider networks, as Figure 7.16 illustrates.
