I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Outbound Route Filtering
Outbound route filtering (ORF) is a simple capability allowing a BGP speaker to advertise a set of filters to its peers. Why would you configure a BGP speaker to advertise filters? To save bandwidth between the speakers, and to save processing resources. For instance, if a BGP speaker is only going to accept 10,000 of 100,000 routes a speaker is sending, each of those prefixes still needs to be formatted, transmitted, received, and discarded. It makes more sense for the receiver simply to transmit its filters, so the sender filters the routes before they are formatted and sent. This is exactly what ORF does.
