Customizing the Login Greeting

The getty programs that manage logins over terminals and network connections prints a message to the screen before asking for the login ID. The default message is as follows:

Red Hat Linux release 6.1 (Cartman)
Kernel 2.2.12-20 on an i586

Many organizations dealing with computer security recommend that there be no information about the operating system, or about the company whose machine is in the login message.
