So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Customizing the Login Greeting
The getty programs that manage logins over terminals and network connections prints a message to the screen before asking for the login ID. The default message is as follows:

Many organizations dealing with computer security recommend that there be no information about the operating system, or about the company whose machine is in the login message. All operating systems have potential security holes that system crackers can exploit if they know which version of the system they are working with.
