So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Components of an Occasionally Connected System
Many times, an occasionally connected system is an extension of a traditional desktop business application. Mobilizing an application requires some architectural redesign from the traditional application. The devices that run the client application are usually portable, are smaller, and have less processing power and memory than their desktop counterparts. They also need to store data locally since they are not always connected to the database via a local area network (LAN) connection. Having the data on the client device allows the mobile user to work while disconnected.
