As discussed in Chapter 6, trends in technology and processes have accelerated

the introduction of new technologies into the e-factory. As this has happened,

decision-making about which software and hardware suppliers to use become

has become more complex. As the promise of total solutions from single-

source enterprise suppliers gave way to the reality and necessity of using best-
