using flame hydrolysis of chloride vapors and aerosolized aqueous solutions of

metal salts was used for fabrication of passive optical silica fibers [48, 49]. It was

observed that in bulk glasses, because of poor mixing of glass precursor vapors

and aerosol, the presence of large aerosol particles in the aerosol stream lead to

non-uniformity and solid inclusions of the final glass. For the fiber fabrication, a

specially designed multiconduit burner was used to improve the mixing of

incoming reagent streams and to increase the dopant content of fiber preforms.
