
20.7.4 GI POF Extrusion
A very new method for continuous production of PF-GI POF was developed
by Chromis-Fiberoptics (formerly, OFS). The process in shown in Fig. 20.38
[67]. An SI-type POF is extruded conventionally. The GI profile is made by
diffusion inside a heated tube (wound around a big cylinder). The best results
(loss of 20 dB/km at 1300 nm and about 10 GHz/100 m bandwidth) are close to
the values of the PF-GI POF made from a preform.
