objectives of this research are the development of radiation-resistant multimode
fibers for space applications, fiber optic lines that could have signal taken off
without creating a break in the main line, and biomedical/technological applica-
tions in which the fibers could be used as a tip for PDT. Placement of sensing
materials, even high toxic or active ones, could be achieved by including them in
the nano-porous cladding. They could be placed in an inactive form and then
remotely activated by a photonic signal. Some specific applications could include
direct treatment of body tissues and fluids, sensing the delivery dosages of
