pends on the relative concentration and the relative affinities of the correct
target and the cross-hybridizing ta rget(s). The latter must be present at suffi-
cient quantities in orde r to interfere with specific signals. Cross-hybridization,
in conjunction with splice variants, is probably a prime candidate to explain
the discrepancies in differe ntial gene expression c alls between various microa r-
ray platforms, although no systematic study has b een undertaken alo ng those
lines yet.
