So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

A 4-Sided Steel-Marking Gauge |
A gauge design developed at the American Repertory Theatre offers an efficient method for measuring and marking standard steel shapes. The tool comprises two 6″ lengths of angle iron, one ¾″ x¾″ and the other 1″ × 1″, arranged in a pinwheel configuration. See Figure 1. These pieces overlap along their exterior faces by ½″. Spot welds on each end hold the gauge together. In its various orientations, this gauge provides measures of ¼″, ½″, ¾″, or 1¾. making it particularly useful for marking much of the tube steel, angle, and bar stock used in theatrical construction.
