What It Is: In 2005, British comedian David Armand appeared on HBO performing a short, silent act in which he rapidly mimed each word or phrase in Natalie Imbruglia’s cover of the Ednaswap song “Torn” while the song played over the PA system. A short excerpt of the HBO performance was posted on YouTube under the title Karaoke for the Deaf. That copy has 520,000 views, which was a good number in the early days of YouTube.
