2.10A. Velocity Profiles in Pipes

One of the most important applications of fluid flow is flow inside circular conduits, pipes, and tubes. Appendix A.5 gives sizes of commercial standard steel pipe. Schedule 40 pipe in the different sizes is the standard usually used. Schedule 80 has a thicker wall and will withstand about twice the pressure of schedule 40 pipe. Both have the same outside diameter so that they will fit the same fittings. Pipes of other metals have the same outside diameters as steel pipe to permit interchanging parts of a piping system.
